Bio-intensive high bed Gardening (BHBG) is a no-till super environment.
BHBG is a truly efficient self sustaining garden that require very little work and maintenance once it is built because it eliminate completely the hard work of plowing and tilling as well as drastically reducing weeding.
Permanent raised bed either small or large scale provides high-yield bountiful crops using minimal resources on a small plot of land. Compost, manure and mulch brings life and vitality to your soil, not only holding moisture in while holding back weeds – but supplying the plant with nutrients that leach into the soil and the plant’s roots. The rich deep build up of humus soil allows growing robust, disease-resistant vegetables.
Permanent vegetable beds are environmental friendly because they make a more efficient use of space, water and fertilizer, and because you never walk on the beds, it eliminate soil compaction and allows your soil to become aerated, fluffy and full of beneficial microorganisms.
Permanent attractive dry pathways made of tree barks, pebbles, tiles, sand or any other materials where repeated footsteps naturally inhibit the growth of weeds and keep you feet out of the mud.

The Bio-intensive High Bed Gardening (BHBG) creates beds 18 inch high which is about knee high for the average person, and they are 3ft across on the inside with a wall of 7 inch thick to seat on to comfortably tend the plants. This allows to work inside the bed easily from all sides without having to ever step inside. The rectangular beds are either 8ft or 16 ft long. Round flowers-herbs beds are 3ft inside diameter.
I use an innovative recipe of a lightweight high strength green mortar made of plant fiber, sawdust and straw. This unique environmental friendly mix provide beauty, strength, durability and insulation from the cold in spring and fall and from extreme heat and drought in the summer. Built in each of the bed are hollow cylinders made to hold the support hoops to easily and quickly transform the bed into an instant greenhouse. Your BHBG garden design can be round, square, rectangular; or any variation of these shapes according to the contour of your landscape and the specificity of your land. Benefits to a Raised Garden Beds
Good Aeration – Your plant’s roots need to be able to breathe. When your soil is too compacted, the roots do not get the proper air circulation preventing them to develop properly. Aeration is necessary for the roots to be able to absorb essential nutrients; pockets of air in the soil help hold in the nitrogen which is converted into beneficial nitrates by the soil bacteria, making it available to the plant to feed upon. Compacted soil is the enemy of strong plant growth. The more easily a plant can send roots into the soil, the faster the plant can absorb the nutrients it needs and the more drought-resistant it becomes. If the plant has to spend energy pushing roots into hardened soil, the plant has less energy to grow and produce well.
Root Spread – They need room to grow. The raised garden beds soil is looser and much deeper than traditional gardens which allows for your plant’s root system to extend further with less effort. Wet soil is especially prone to compaction because water acts as a lubricant. The first time you step on wet soil, it can become 75 percent compacted. After the fourth step in the same spot, 90 percent of the pore spaces are gone. Soil compaction restricts root growth physically because overly dense soil is often impenetrable, plus it handicaps any roots already present by depriving them of oxygen and access to soil borne nitrogen.
Better soil drainage- If your climate is subject to heavy rain and/or excess soil moisture, a raised bed allows the soil to drain quickly. This prevents root rot and discourages fungi

Amending your Soil – Feed that which feeds you. The Keys To Creating A Self Sustaining Garden Start By Building Your Soil Naturally: “Take care of your soil – and it will take care of you.” Adding amendments to your soil has never been easier than doing it to a raised garden bed. Your compost and manure added to the bed will build up into a rich fluffy soil over the years and will give you abundant diseases free vegetables year after year.
Faster soil heating- In the spring and fall, the temperature of a raised bed will warm up more quickly during the day, thus promoting faster plant growth. This allows you to start gardening earlier in the spring and extend your growing season later in the fall.
Instant greenhouse- Once the bed is in place, it is easy to add support for a covering cloth material to create an instant greenhouse for your heat loving plants like tomatoes, pepper, eggplants, etc......
Higher Yields – The more the better. The soil in a raised bed is 2 to 3 time deeper than in a regular direct dug bed and therefore provide the plants a healthier soil allowing them to grow faster, bigger, more vigorous, resistant to pest and diseases as well as producing bumper crops. The combination of better soil drainage and greater depth of loose soil allows you to space plants in a raised bed closer to each other. These factors, combined with faster soil warming and better pest control, give you a higher yield per square foot.

A no-till super environment- .A healthy fertile soil is a soil alive with a multitude of microorganisms. No-till will create the condition for Indigenous Micro Organisms, or IMOs, to develop and thrive. These tiny colonies of life will cultivate the soil for you deepening and loosening the soil providing a no-till super fluffy aerated environment.
You can build great vitality and health into your soil by practicing simple low-cost methods Strong, healthy plants are much more resistant to damage from pests, which prey on weak species. These techniques create a system that not only feeds the soil but also builds and improves the ecosystem.
Mulch- Shredded leaves, straw, compost and grass clippings are all excellent mulches that not only help control weeds and feed your plants – but also add valuable organic matter back into your soil as they decompose and keep the soil moist.
